Raila, Kalonzo set for night meeting to discuss Nasa coalition
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has confirmed that he is set to meet the ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday night for talks over the National Super Alliance (Nasa) coalition.
The Nasa coalition is made of Raila Odinga’s ODM., Kalonzo’s Wiper, Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC and Moses Wetangula’s Ford Kenya.
Speaking to local television on Thursday, Kalonzo revealed he will meet Raila to discuss matters concerning the embattled coalition.
According to Kalonzo, the meeting will focus on the political parties’ fund that has been the bone of contention among the Nasa parties.
“In the evening I am going to meet Raila. The issue is about the political parties’ funds because these are public funds,” he said.
The Wiper party leader, however, dismissed claims that he will also engage Raila on the 2022 succession politics during the meeting.
Kalonzo, who has been Raila presidential running mate in the last two elections, says he is not ready to talk with the ODM leader on the 2022 polls.
“I don’t intend to discuss the 2022 politics at this stage but that is coming very soon because we don’t have time,” he said
Nasa parties have experienced a frosty relationship with the ODM party after the orange outfit declined to give them a share of the political parties’ funds.
According to the ODM leader, who spoke to local radio on Thursday morning, his party has not declined to give its coalition partners their rightful share.
He said the money given to them is not meant for the Nasa coalition but the ODM party owing to the number of MPs elected on the ODM party ticket.
“There is no money allocated to the Nasa coalition that the ODM party is holding. The money we received as a party is because of the number of MPs elected on the ODM party ticket,” he said.
Failure by the ODM party to give a share of the political parties’ fund to its Nasa partners has caused a huge crack to an extent that the three partners have seemingly left Nasa to form the One Kenya Alliance (OKA).
The three brought in Kanu leader Gideon Moi, who is also a principal.
The four, who have expressed interest in a presidential seat, now seek OKA presidential ticket for the 2022 General elections.
