Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga on Wednesday celebrated retired President Mwai Kibaki as his hero.

Speaking during Mashujaa Day celebration at Wangu'uru Stadium in Kirinyaga County, the former prime minister recalled how he campaigned for Kibaki in the 2002 general elections.

"When I said Kibaki tosha in 2002, people said Raila is finished politically," Raila recalled.

He said Luos voted for Kibaki to the man in the 2002 presidential election.

"Luos voted for Kibaki 98 per cent. When Kibaki was involved in an accident, I campaigned for him. We later sworn him in while he was in a wheelchair," he said.

Raila also recalled victory march from Nairobi, through Githurai to Kenol.

Speaking just a day after finishing his three day tour of the lower Mount Kenya east region, Raila exuded confidence that he will get support from central in next year's polls.

"Luos and Kikuyus have never fought. We are all peaceful people and I'm confident I will climb the mountain," he said.
