Orange Democratic Movement party leader Raila Odinga on September 4, 2021, surprised a 22-year-old man who had invited him to his birthday via a text message.

Gideon Gitonga Gachuki, a young man from Githunguri in Kiambu County, picked the former premier's phone number from his social media platforms asking him to grace his 22nd birthday party.

Raila honoured the rare invitation by the young man, to his utter surprise. The opposition chief stealthily drove into the compound in a small car as opposed to his normal convoy of SUVs. Gideon and his family were extremely grateful for the attendance of the former Prime Minister.

Raila was later joined by the area governor James Nyoro.

Speaking at the event, the county head beseeched the attendees to support the ODM leader in the 2022 presidential race. Nyoro implored on the residents to ensure that they cast their votes for the right candidate.

On his part, Odinga dismissed claims of harbouring enmity with the Mt Kenya region. He noted that past presidential contests against candidates drawn from the region did not amount to bad blood.

Raila also stated that he was seeking a partnership with the vote-rich region to craft a winning formula in the 2022 polls. He promised to prioritize the push to revamp the economy and to champion equitable sharing of the national cake. The ODM leader, who is yet to publicly declare his presidential bid, claimed that the BBI Bill had good intentions which they will continue to pursue.

"I want to form a partnership with you. I don't want to leave anyone lagging behind. This time we will move shoulder to shoulder. I want us to work together in 2022," he said.
