A fresh raw among the Mt Kenya Council of Elders has intensified after National council officials disowned a section of their Kikuyu counterparts who dismissed coronation of National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi as the region's spokesman.

Led by patron Captain Kung'u Muigai, the elders who attended the burial of Supreme council chairman Phares Rutere at Maili Tatu in Meru County accused those who participated in the cleansing of the Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga as individuals who are being misused politically.

"There is a lot of noise in the elders' camp but those who are making unnecessary noise about Muturi are not genuine. They are just like frogs whose noise cannot hinder the cows from taking water from a river," said Kung'u.

While addressing mourners, the patron at the same time trashed the cleansing exercise saying it was just a waste of time since the elders across the country have chosen and settled on Muturi as the kingpin.

He further said Mukurwe wa Nyagathanga is not an alter as it was claimed by splinter group but said that it is a home of Agikuyu where they chose to welcome their son to meet the parents .

"We hear they are saying the place is an alter. Who told them? That's the home of Agikuyu and that's why we welcomed Muturi to meet his parents," Kung'u.

He at the same time added they were soon planning to take the speaker to spiritual elders who will perform a ritual at the top of Mt Kenya to prepare the speaker for the task ahead.

"We are soon going for an ultimate blessing of the Speaker at the real shrine on mount Kenya (Igongoni) and that where we will present him to God (Agogoni) and give him the official task to carry on in uniting this region and the country as a whole so we are telling those 'elders' being misused by politician to get ready for the big blow" he added.

Njuri Ncheke patron supreme council Erastus Njoka also backed the sentiment accusing the section of Kikuyu elders opposed to Muturi's coronation as enemies of the region's unity.

Secretary-general Josphat Murangiri also added that Muturi was the best choice for the role.

Nairobi Deputy governor Ann Kananu, MPs John Paul Mwirigi (Igembe South), and Rahim Dawood (Imenti North) also vowed to support Muturi and asked those dissatisfied to stay away.

On his part, Muturi affirmed that he will not be stopped in steering peace and unity of the region and the country as a whole.
