Deputy President William Ruto has appointed Turkana Governor Josphat Nanok as head of his campaign secretariat.

While making the announcement during his two-day tour of Turkana County, Ruto said the two-term governor was best suited as his campaign's Director General.

Ruto asked the Turkana residents to allow Nanok to accompany him in his national campaigns to boost his chances in the bid to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta next year.

"I want to thank you people of Turkana for allowing your governor to come and help me as the Director-General of my presidential campaigns so that he plans all the issues of the hustlers in our government in 2022,” Ruto told a political rally in Lodwar on Saturday.

Nanok, on his part, said he opted to join Ruto's team because it stands a 'better chance' of forming the next government

“People have to ask themselves why I left the other side.

"For those who have joined the other team, they are joining the other team because of the money of the deep state.

“As we head to the polls, I want to assure you that the deep state is the Kenyan who has his/her voter's card,” he stated.

Before decamping to Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA), Nanok served as the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) national chairman.

He was elected in 2013 and 2017 as Turkana governor on an ODM ticket.
