President William Ruto is today expected to convene a special cabinet meeting in State House, Nairobi to discuss the ongoing floods wreaking havoc in different parts of the country.

The Head of State will be accompanied by his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and all Cabinet Secretaries (CSs).

The latest comes amid the ravaging floods which have caused loss of lives, destruction of property and infrastructure.

According to the ministry of Interior, 169 people have lost their lives to the floods whereas 102 others have been injured across different affected regions.

The rise in fatalities is attributed to by the mudslide in Mai Mahiu which claimed 46 lives.

Similarly, 91 people have been reported missing. Mai Mahiu accounts for 53 missing individuals whereas Garisaa has reported 16 missing people.

30,099 households have been displaced countrywide affecting approximately 150,495 individuals.

"We are actively carrying out search, rescue, and retrieval operations particularly in Nakuru due to the recent mudslideand have rescued 23 people in Garissa. A reporting desk manned by representatives from the National Government, Nakuru County, and the Kenya Red Cross has been set up at the site of the tragedy in Mai Mahiu.

"We call for continued vigilance and adherance to safety measures issued by local authorities," a statement by the Interior ministry reads in parts.
