Deputy President  William Ruto jetted back to the country yesterday after a four-day trip in Dubai.

A source at the DP’s office who sought anonymity told the People Daily that the DP quietly arrived in Nairobi from the United Arab Emirates yesterday, shortly after midday.

Little was forthcoming from Ruto’s handlers over the nature of his trip with his spokesperson David Mugonyi failing to pick our calls while his deputy, Emmanuel Talam refused to comment saying he was on leave.

“I am on leave, so I don’t know much about the trip, call Mugonyi for any information,” said Talam when contacted.

The DP was accompanied in the trip by former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar and posted photos and a video of famous Turkish butcher Nusret Gökçe, nicknamed Salt Bae, serving him nyama choma.

Successful hustle

“This evening, I interacted with hustler Salt Bae, a Turkish butcher, who has created a successful hustle out of salt, nyama and a knife. Mahustler wa Kenyatta, Burma, Dagoretti markets na wengine mko na compe (competition) na lessons hapo, mjipange. Kazi ni kazi, wìra ni wìra,” the DP said.

The DP also posted photos he took with former Nigeria Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Nigerian political activist Timi Frank.

Ruto’s whereabouts became a matter of public concern especially after similar questions were raised regarding the whereabouts of ODM leader Raila Odinga, who quickly announced that he was in Democratic Republic of Congo in his capacity as the African Union (AU)  envoy on Infrastructure.

“The AU is jointly undertaking the Inga Hydropower project with President Felix Tshisekedi’s government.

It will significantly boost the availability of power in the continent. I discussed its impact thus far and more with the Governor of Lualaba, Richard Muyej in Kolwezi, DRC,” Raila said of his visits and shared pictures.
