Deputy President William Ruto has lauded President Uhuru Kenyatta on his two-day development tour of the Nyanza region.

In his Madaraka Day speech in Kisumu, Ruto said the launch of the projects in the region was a testimony that there is a government that works and delivers.

"And it goes to confirm two things: one, that the government that delivers is good for everybody irrespective of how and who they voted for and secondly, that a government that delivers brings the country together," Ruto said.

He added: "You (Uhuru) have shown it is possible to develop Kenya equally and bring everybody on board."

Ruto further said the Jubilee administration has delivered in infrastructure in preparation for the next phase of development.

"The next phase of development will give opportunities, create jobs, create value and create wealth so that we can deal with the twin challenge of poverty and unemployment," the DP said.

President Kenyatta commissioned two key road and water projects in Siaya County.

The President, who arrived in the region Sunday afternoon for a three-day working visit, officially opened the Shs1.6 billion Kodiaga-Wagai-Onyirore/Akala, and Nyangweso-Muhanda road circuit, and the Shs 2.4 billion Siaya-Bondo water supply and sanitation project.

The road network covers a total distance of 38kms, opening up the fish and sugarcane rich region to markets in Kisumu and beyond.

On the other hand, the Siaya Bondo water project, funded by the Government and the African Development Bank (AfDB), raised the volume of fresh water supply to the two towns by rehabilitating and expanding the Sidindi Malanga processing plant.

The President and visiting Burundi President Evariste Ndayishimiye also opened the Kenya Shipyards Limited (KSL) in Kisumu County. KSL is a new Government ship building and repair facility with yards in Mombasa and Kisumu.

The company was created to service the growing local and regional demand for ship building and repair services, and is currently undertaking 3 key projects: revamp of Kisumu Yard, construction of second cargo ferry (MV Uhuru II), and refitting of KNS Shupavu in Mombasa.

The two Presidents also commissioned the revamped MV Uhuru cargo ship.

At the ceremony, also attended by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, the two Heads of State witnessed the loading of a fuel cargo destined for Uganda.
