Ruto mourns billionaire Chris Kirubi as Kenya’s most visible business personality

Deputy President William Ruto has joined Kenyans in mourning the death of billionaire businessman Chris Kirubi.

In his condolences message, the DP heaped praise on the departed business mogul saying his legacy will serve as an inspiration to many generations.

"I join Kenyans in mourning the passing of one of the country's most visible business personalities. Chris Kirubi was an irrepressible boardroom operative, media personality, developer and investor whose interests traversed multiple sectors and enterprises," he said.

The DP also wished his family comfort at this difficult moment and at the same time asked them to draw comfort from the beautiful memories they built with Kirubi.

"His presence and voice will be missed by many, and his colossal legacy, just like his towering personality, will continue to inspire emulation and elicit debate among people of all walks of life. May his family receive solace from Almighty God and draw comfort from his memory," Ruto added.

Billionaire Kirubi 's death was confirmed on Monday by his family.

He succumbed to cancer after being diagonized with it in 2017. He passed on aged 80.

Centum Investment Limited, where he is the largest individual shareholder, announced his death on behalf of the family.

” It is with deep sorrow that we regret to inform you of the passing away today of Dr. Christopher J. Kirubi, EBS, prominent businessman, investor and entrepreneur in Kenya and the East Africa region,” a statement by Centum Investment Limited read.

Kirubi invested in manufacturing, media, real estate, insurance and investment sectors. He is the owner of the popular radio station Capital Fm.

He served as the Chairman of Coca-Cola Nairobi Bottlers, DHL Worldwide Express, Capital Media Group, International House Limited, and Smart Applications International among others. He was Deputy Chairman of Bayer East Africa Limited.

He was a passionate Ambassador for the Kenya Country Brand and served as Chairperson of Brand Kenya Board from March 2016 – December 2017.

Until his death, he served on the Harvard Global Advisory Council (Massachusetts, USA) as an advisor on education matters of Africa.

Kirubi is survived by two children namely Mary-Ann Musangi and Robert Kirubi.
