Ruto, Raila lead Kenyans in mourning Suleiman Dori

Deputy President (DP) William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga Monday led the nation in mourning the death of Msambweni Member of Parliament (MP) Suleiman Dori.

Dori, 43, died at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa after battling stomach cancer.

He was admitted at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

DP Ruto described Dori as ambitious, ingenious and committed to public service and progressive figure who tirelessly championed for the empowerment of the people of Msambweni.

“He was hardworking, focused, and fearless, with an inextinguishable love for everyone. Mheshimiwa Dori was indomitable, a moral enthusiast whose leadership advocated for equal justice,” DP Ruto tweeted.

“We will miss his firmness, wise counsel and vigour to improve the lives of the people the Coastal region. Our prayers to the Dori family, friends and the people of Msambweni. Rest in Peace,” he added.

On his part, ODM leader Raila Odinga tweeted: “My heartfelt condolences go out to the people of Msambweni and family of Ramadhani Suleiman Dori who has passed on this morning. May the Lord grant his family comfort at this difficult moment and may his soul Rest in eternal peace.”

Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho said he had lost an ally, a great friend and brother.

“It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that we mourn the passing on of a great friend and Brother Hon. Suleiman Dori the MP of Msambweni,” Joho said on twitter.

“His life will forever remain a lesson of courage and true dedication to community service. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un,” he added.

National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi led dozens of lawmakers in eulogizing Dori whom he said served his constituents with utmost dedication and commitment, for seven years.

“It is with profound sadness that I have learnt of the untimely demise of Msambweni MP, Hon. Ramadhani Suleiman Dori this morning. My heartfelt condolences to his family and his constituents,” said Muturi.

The speaker noted the Msambweni lawmaker who served as the chairperson of the Coast Parliamentary Group will be remembered for his profound articulation of issues affecting not only his constituents, but also the residents of Kwale County and the Coastal Region at large.

“May his soul rest in eternal peace,’ he added.

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo said : “Sad to learn of the death of my colleague Hon Ramadhani Suleiman Dori.., May his soul test In eternal peace,”

Announcing Dori’s death, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) said cancer had once again robbed Kenya a dedicated leader who served his people selflessly.

According to the party, Dori, a second term MP, died at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa on Monday early morning after battling stomach cancer.

“We are saddened by the death of our Member and MP for Msambweni Hon. Suleiman Dori early this morning. To the people of Msambweni, Kwale County and the Coast region, Poleni sana,” ODM posted on its twitter account.

The Party said Dori, who served as its deputy organizing secretary will be buried today at 4pm at his home village of Gasi, in Msambweni constituency, Kwale County.

“May God Rest his Soul in Peace,” the party affirmed.
