Ruto’s Sh2.8 million donation divides Kangema riders
A donation of Sh2.8 million by Deputy President William Ruto has left boda boda riders from Kangema, Murang'a county divided.
The boda boda operators claim the money was diverted to bank accounts belonging to freshly appointed officials instead of the known Sacco leaders.
The aggrieved riders who spoke on Mediamax Digital staged a protest on Friday accusing some political leaders of mischief and using them unfairly.
Through their leader Kevin Mwangi Kanyi, the riders now demand equal sharing of the cash or the Deputy President to collect it back.
"If this money will not be divided equally to all the riders who attended the meeting, the Deputy President should come and collect back his cash, it has started creating rifts among us. We have no problem with the Deputy President, the recipients of the cash are to blame," said Mwangi alias Magiri.
Magiri said the man who claimed to be their chairman received the cash and disappeared and efforts to claim their share have not bore fruits.
Another rider Richard Ruua said the majority of the riders did not recognize the officials who received the cash.
"One week after the Deputy President gave us Sh2.8 million, we have not received any cash. We do not know to whose accounts the cash was banked because the MCA broke the existing committee and appointed new officials," said Ruua.
The riders demanded the money in cash as they do not intend to invest it into any project.

Kiharu Member of Parliament(MP) Ndindi Nyoro who had invited the DP to Kangema, however, said he is involving the leaders of all boda boda riders in Kangema to invest the money prudently.
"We came up with several scenarios and options while incorporating the opinions of all operators. We shall be communicating those options to all members so as to have viable longterm investments," said Nyoro on Thursday.
The Deputy President donated the cash on October 30, in his Murang'a tour to Kangema and Kiria-ini where he also visited Nyeri town before heading to Mathira the following day.
A similar donation of Sh750,000 in Kitengela Kajiado in mid October also left boda boda riders divided over sharing rights.
Over 7000 riders accused the leaders of shortchanging them after receiving the cash at Deputy President William Ruto's home in Karen.
