Nyeri leaders and local residents expect President William Ruto's five days tours to unlock development in roads and also bring the good tide in payment of coffee and Tea.

They have expectations that following Ruto's visit to the region all stalled projects which include road projects, water projects, and construction of the Cancer Centre at Dedan Kimathi University will all be revived.

Discussion with Ruto

Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga says the visit will open an opportunity to discuss and revive all the projects from the region that have stalled.

"We want to be discussing the matters of all the projects that stalled. We have the Kariminu Dam, Narumoru Dam, Muhoya Dam and Sagana River restoration. We will also be requesting the government to allocate funds to the projects that were not implemented by the previous government," he said.

Wahome emphasized the importance of implementing the Coffee and Tea Acts to ensure fair compensation for farmers. This, he stated, would empower them to have a significant say in the government they elected.

"We will ensure our coffee and tea farmers are paid well through implementation of the two crops Acts which we have contributed to, and we will also push for the allocation of funds to all the projects that were not implemented," he said.

Mathira Member of Parliament Eric Wamumbi said that he will take the opportunity to lobby for his constituents, noting that the tour will be addressing development matters.

"We will be discussing more of development in our region and for me, I will have that chance to lobby for projects for my people," Wamumbi said.

His Mukurwe-ini counterpart John Kaguchia said that launching several road projects in his constituency will mean that they will be done and this will open up the constituency.

"These roads once done will help a lot in terms of communication and transportation in Mukurwe-ini and Nyeri county as the constituency is the gateway to Nyeri County," said Kaguchia.

Traders in Nyeri are also elated with the visit saying that they are confident that the head of state will open and also come up with new markets to allow them to trade well.

"We are happy that this time our fortune will change once this market is opened during the tour we will reap big as we will trade well," said their chairman Maina Kamamia.

Another trader urged the president to complete the Mau Mai road so as to open up counties and make their businesses thrive.

Ruto is set to unveil mega roads and water projects in his five days development tour of the Central region that kicks off on Saturday.

The president is also set to hold two meetings with political leaders from the region which overwhelmingly voted for him in the last general elections.

Addressing a press conference at Sagana state lodge government spokesperson Hussein Mohammed said that the tour kicks off on Saturday with the president launching water projects in Kiambu and Kirinyaga counties and later in the afternoon he will address a public rally at Karatina town.

While in Nyeri the president who will be accompanied by deputy president Rigathi Gachagua. The two will commission mega dams in Kieni whose funding is being processed at the national treasury and also water projects in Othaya and Tetu constituencies.
