Mumias East MP Peter Salasya was yet again involved in a fracas during a meeting called yesterday to resolve a dispute at a secondary school in his constituency.

During the fracas, the lawmaker allegedly kicked and punched students of St Gabriel’s Isongo secondary school for yelling at him during the meeting to restore normalcy at the restive institution.

Salasya had arrived at the school while a Catholic priest, who was representing the sponsor was addressing students and parents and demanded to also address.

Physical duel

When he was given the microphone, he started berating his audience, singling out the area MCA Peter Walunya, challenging him to a physical duel for dragging him to court. ‘I’m here to resolve this matter once and for all. And I’m now directing everyone in this compound, if you’re not a student or teacher to leave,” he demanded.

He demanded an apology from Walunya, who was in attendance, for dragging him to court for assault.

Walunya, however, maintained his cool, which apparently angered the MP prompting him to charge at him but was restrained by the parents and students who jeered at him.

Angered by the booing, the MP and his aides stormed out of the meeting, in the process kicking and punching some students as he made his way out of the compound.

Yesterday’s meeting at the school was convened by the education office and the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to restore normalcy at the school after parents physically ejected a former principal early this week in protest against poor KCSE examination results.
