Nominated MP David Sankok now says it's not yet 'time to pass the baton' in politics.

The lawmaker who joined politics in 2017 said at the age of 43, he is not affected by the wave of retirements as it would be earlier than usual.

Sankok made an argument that some politicians have simply reached retirement age and are still active.

"I did not say that am retiring from politics, I just said I am not going for an elective seat just like Prof Kindiki and Sabina Chege. We have people at the age of 80 in politics do I look like I can exit politics at 43?" the MP who represents Persons living With Disabilities (PWDs) in the National Assembly piqued.

Sankok was battling his previous sentiments during a radio interview where he noted that he will not be on the ballot citing frustrations.

“Politics in Kenya is very hard. It is a very tough game where everyone thinks you are their property. I’m not used to giving out free things. As a disabled person, I have struggled. I can’t just give out money freely,” he said.

“The issue of contesting is a personal decision. I decided this time round not to seek any elective position. I need to focus on my businesses because I started engaging in the advocacy of people with disabilities at a very early age, so I never had space to develop myself and that is what it is,” he added.

He however said while he will be out of office, he will still continue with the fight for the rights of the abled differently.

"If you've followed debates in Parliament, you've probably noticed that I always arrive on time for debates and always leave after the Speaker. I am always on time because I don't want anything to go by without me bringing up the issue of persons with disabilities. I was recognized as the best performing male MP for three years," Sankok said.
