Veteran journalist Reuben Olita is the new Football Kenya Federation Busia branch secretary after beating Kakamega Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti by 5-4 votes in a repeat election.

The elections held at the County Commissioner’s Conference Hall in Busia town saw Team Blue under Nick Mwendwa sweep the board against Team Black of Sam Nyamweya, winning all five contestable seats.

Former Busia sub branch secretary Hillary Musundi captured the chairmanship after beating former chairman William Musumba 5-4.

Musundi’s running mate who takes over as vice chair is Michael Ikolak.

Former AFC Leopards team manager Bernard Onyango was elected treasurer after beating Teso sub branch chairman Moses Imai 5-4, while former Western branch assistant secretary Josephine Oduori beat Anne Otiti 7-2 to capture the women representative seat.

Muyoti who witnessed the polls shook hands with Olita as he conceded defeat.

The same was exhibited by Imai who shook hands with Onyango as a sign of sportsmanship. Team Blue’s Martin Buluma was elected unopposed as youth representative.

Mr Musundi congratulated his team for the victory and their opponents for offering stiff opposition, noting that with the elections now behind them he will embark on revamping the game by organising competitions from grassroots level.

“I urge parents and teachers to support the youths by buying the equipment and allowing them to go and train to help in nurturing their talents, “he said, adding that lack of sponsorship had lowered the standard of the game in the county, thus the need for county government and leadership to offer support.

Olita who thanked Muyoti for his sportsmanship by conceding defeat said their first task will be to help fast track the establishment of a sports bill .

Fifa instructor Magaret Omondi who is vying for the NEC member post that will see her take charge of women football witnessed the polls.
