Search for Auditor General begins in earnest as selection panel sworn in
The search for the second Auditor General began yesterday with swearing in of the selection panel to be chaired by former Deloitte East Africa chief executive Sammy Onyango.
The seven-member panel was sworn in before Public Service Commission (PSC) chaired by chair Stephen Kirogo.
Onyango, in his acceptance speech committed to an impartial process, saying at least 69 applications have been made from interested candidates and they will have to shortlist just a few for interviews.
Quality process
“If we are to interview all of them, we would be here for months and remember the office is already vacant, since the Auditor General vacated over a month ago,” Onyango said after the ceremony at Commission House, Nairobi.
He said the team would not compromise on quality of the process, even as he asked panellists to be ready to work long hours to give President Uhuru Kenyatta the shortlist in the shortest time possible.
Onyango will be working alongside Bernard Ndung’u (ministry of Finance), Kennedy Ogeto (Office of the Attorney General), Titus Ndambuki (ministry of Public Service), Rose Mwaura (Institute of Public Accountants of Kenya), Loise Ruhiu (Association of Professional Societies of East Africa) and Masinde Joy (Law Society of Kenya).
