Security authorities in Central region have destroyed outlawed goods and brews worth over Sh8 million, which were seized from various sub-counties in Kiambu.

Regional commissioner Wilfred Nyagwanga yesterday afternoon led government officers in burning 110 illegal gambling machines, more than 100 rolls of bhang, 110 litres of Chang’aa, 45 litres of Muratina, 300 litres of Kangara, two cartons of second generation liquor, 40 litres of Molasses and a boilers cooler.

Speaking at Starehe grounds in Thika, Nyagwanga said many suspects connected with operation and sale of the illicit goods have been arrested while others are being sought.

The illegal machines were confiscated following an operation conducted by police and local administrators following a directive issued by Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

Nyagwanga said the machines have largely contributed to immorality in the area, with youths, women and children being the most affected by gambling.

Residents, led by community policing officers, pledged to work with the authorities to eradicate the gambling vice that has become a threat to the socio-economic growth of the communities, adding that many youths have become gambling addicts.
