Trans Nzoia county governor Patrick Khaemba Wednesday announced a new raft of measures including putting more restrictions to mass gatherings in rural areas to downscale spikes in COVID-19 cases.

He said he was shocked to have found so many people in a rural slum not adhering to the guidelines of the ministry of health on coronavirus.

''I recently disguised myself and visited a village in the county and to my astonishment, people are not putting on masks. An old woman told me Coronavirus had not reached the area and thus no need for masks," said the shocked county boss.

Speaking at the county government headquarters in Kitale after meeting the Trans Nzoia interfaith council members, he said the county had so far hit a 38 coronavirus mark and warned that the county emergence response committee on coronavirus will act tough on offenders.

He said the sale of alcoholic drinks shall remain banned and asked the county security team to crack whip against all people who will be found flouting the ministry of health regulations.

The governor said the county had so far procured 100 beds which have been delivered to the county teaching and referral hospital with some more 200 to be delivered early next week in preparation for the opening of the facility.

'' We are already prepared for combat to save our people even as today we report 38 cases half of which are all asymptomatic. We have procured 32 beds with 5 ventilators and 5 ICU beds'', he said.

Trans Nzoia county faith-based interfaith council chairman Dr. Moses Wanyonyi thanked the President and the National interfaith council for putting in place measures towards reopening of places of worship with increased numbers in age and loved to use places of worship in making sure members followed protocols.
