Selfie with DP Ruto lands w***n in trouble
A political activist who was last week captured with Deputy President William Ruto at his residence became the latest victim of robbery in Nairobi’s Eastlands area on Friday morning.
Investigations have been launched to establish the identity of the attackers amid reports that the robbery could be as a result of a false hope that the mother might have left Ruto’s residence with a lot of money.
Just two days before the attack, Rodah Ingashani posted a photo of her and Ruto on her Facebook page, which attracted a lot of views and comments. She has since pulled it down.
Three hooded robbers, all in heavy jackets and wearing masks, raided the house of Ingashani in Mathare 2 and shot and seriously injured her son before robbing the family of Sh18,000 and electronic gadgets and phones all valued at around Sh85,000.
Ingashani on Friday morning reported to Pangani Police Station that three robbers armed with pistols broke into their house on the fifth floor at around 12.30am and ordered everyone to surrender.
The suspicions
“I heard a sound but never imagined it was a gunshot. I woke up only to be confronted by a hooded man next to our bed.
I then heard a voice from the living room warning us not to raise any alarm,” she said.
The gang had broken the wooden door and her son, Kevin Ambutsi aged 17, confronted one of them but he shot him on the stomach.
“As they were leaving I shouted and my son told me not to shout as they had shot him on the stomach,” she said
Ingashani told People Daily that few days earlier she was part of the delegation that went to the residence of Deputy President William Ruto.
“I suspect the robbers thought we had a lot of money as they insisted that we give them more,” she said.
Ingashani works at the office of the Mlango Kubwa MCA and says she had escorted six people from the Ward to the DP Ruto’s residence.
“We were eight people from Mlango Kubwa and contrary to what many believe, we were not given any money,” she said.
She said before the robbers left they robbed them of Sh18,000, TV set, home theatre, four mobile phones all valued at Sh85,000.
“They had shot her son, Kevin Ambutsi aged 17, when he tried to raise alarm,” she said.
The boy was rushed to MSF hospital along Juja Road and later transferred to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for specialised treatment.
Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) visited the scene and recorded statememts from the family members.
“Officers recovered a spent cartridge of calibre 9mm which will be subjected to ballistic examination.
No one has been arrested in connection to the attack,” a senior officer told People Daily.
At least twelve cases of robberies, mostly involving shootings, have been reported across the country in the last five days.
On Friday night, four armed robbers raided the residence of Catherine Mwende along Vihiga Road in Kileleshwa and robbed the family of Sh110,000, laptops and mobile phones.
“The scene was visited where it was established that the guard escaped immediately after the robbery leaving the gate open,” police said.
In another case on Thursday at around 4.30am a boda boda rider, Evans Mudavi and a businesswoman were attacked at Ikoli along the Kakamega-Shianda highway.
She reported that six men, three of them with jungle jackets, accosted them. They hit the rider with a rungu and he fell down.
She was robbed of Sh91,200 and mobile phones. The robbers then handcuffed them and left them at the scene.
Elsewhere in Lavington West on Friday night, a boda boda rider was shot and seriously injured after he raised alarm when he saw a woman being accosted by robbers at her gate.
The two armed men who smashed her windows after she refused to open attacked Jane Wanjiru Ng’ang’a.
