Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala is uncertain whether ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi's close ties with President Uhuru Kenyatta is genuine.

The vocal Senator says a series of events happening in the county paints a grim picture of whether President Uhuru values the Western region.

Speaking to one of the local radio stations on Thursday morning, Malala said it is time for the ANC party to reconsider its position in the Uhuru-led government.

The Senator, while addressing woes facing the Mumias Sugar company expressed doubt on whether the President and his government are committed to helping thousands of farmers in the Western region.

"The government of Kenya is not genuine with us as the people of Western Kenya. Mumias Sugar company owes many government parastatals the huge chunk of its debt. Why can't the government just write off the debt?" he posed.

He further accused the President of sidelining the Western region in the allocation of national resources and appointment of Senior Government officers.

It is in that context that the Senator questioned if the ANC party should keep rallying behind the President or forge an alternative path ahead of 2022.

"If they are saying Kshs 5 billion is enough to revive Mumias Sugar Company, is the government unable to give us that amount?" he posed.

"He was recently in Nyanza where he launched projects worth about Kshs 30 billion. Why can't he give us Kshs 5 billion or Kshs 10 billion we revive the sugar company?" Malala questioned.

According to Senator Malala, the move by President Uhuru to ignore the Western region in the appointment of Cabinet Secretaries raises doubt whether he is keen on the region's interests.

The Senator also lamented over failure by the president to recognize the ANC leader during the Madaraka Day celebrations.

"I recently talked to fellow ANC leaders and told them we must now take on issues head-on. Tell me who in Uhuru's government comes from the Western region?" he questioned.

"We must question how genuine his ties with Musalia is. Even during the Madaraka Day celebrations he couldn't recognize Mudavadi," he said.

Malala has now asked the President to come out openly and declare whether he will support Mudavadi in the 2022 race.

He says the people of Western region are running out of patience and would wish to know what awaits them in their ties with the President.
