Senators in Naivasha for five-day training

Senators are currently holed up in a five-day induction in Naivasha, Nakuru County.

The induction-themed 'Understanding the Mandate of the Senate And Strengthening Devolution Through Legislative Agenda was opened by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi.

During the induction, the legislators will discuss matters on devolution, emerging issues, and solutions, ties with the three arms of government, media relations, and public awareness.

Others include relationships with constitutional commissions and independent offices and matters of national security.

Among the key speakers expected to address the lawmakers are Chief Justice Martha Koome, the Attorney General, and Cabinet secretaries for Devolution, Foreign Affairs, and Treasury.

Panelists drawn from the Commission on Revenue Allocation, budget controller, EACC, Kenya National Commission of Human rights and the Auditor General are also expected to attend.

The discussion on media relations and public awareness will be presented by the president of the Kenya Editor's Guild (KEG) Churchill Otieno and media consultant Mark Kaigwa.

An itinerary shared by the clerk of the Senate Jeremiah Nyegeny shows that the legislators checked in Sawela Lodge on Monday evening.
