Senior S******fficials visit ex-president Kabarak home burial site
Senior government officials from the Office of the President were yesterday at former President Daniel arap Moi’s Kabarak home to put final touches on his burial arrangements slated for next week.
The team headed by Rift Valley Regional Commissioner George Natembeya visited the site where Moi, who died three days ago, will be buried.
Kabarak University Vice Chancellor Henry Kiplagat took them around the home.
The team also visited the university playground where the funeral ceremony will be held before proceeding to check another field where cars will be parked.
Thousands of mourners both local and foreign are expected to attend the event.
“We had our first meeting yesterday (Wednesday) and we also expect another team of government officers from Nairobi tomorrow (today),” said Kiplagat.
Prayerful person
He said that the officials also comprising of regional security team were on the ground to ensure that the ceremony which will be conducted by the church and the military goes on smoothly and according to plan.
Moi is the second person to be accorded a State funeral with full military honours after founding President Jomo Kenyatta in 1978.
Kiplagat said the State had taken charge of the former Head of State’s funeral arrangements.
At the same time, Kiplagat heaped praise on Moi saying that he had been touched by his humility, generosity, kindness and his down-to-earth demeanour.
“I have never seen a more humble person like Moi in my life…” he said.
“He was a prayerful person and a committed Christian. He loved God and man,” he stated.
Kiplagat, who has served in various capacities at Kabarak for the last 30 years said Moi educated thousands of students from poor backgrounds by paying fees for them.
