Reaction to new education grading system
After the Ministry of Education announced the new Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) grading system changes, key stakeholders are expected to voice their support or concerns.
The changes, announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Tuesday, September 25, will be applied immediately to this year’s national examinations.
According to the new system, KCSE will see only two mandatory subjects required for computing a candidate's mean grade. The first will be mathematics, and the second will be English, Kiswahili, or Kenyan Sign Language, whichever the candidate has a higher score in.
Previously, a candidate had to be examined on five mandatory subjects across three cluster groups: mathematics, English, Kiswahili, two sciences, and one humanity.
Top agendas as House resumes
The new session of the National Assembly resumes on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, with key agenda items awaiting its deliberations.
The talks between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance could find their way into the session if the negotiators reach an agreement on key issues.
Proposed reforms to the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF) are also expected to dominate the new session.
Apart from the bipartisan talks, an investigation into Worldcoin activities could be among the top agenda items.
The Members of Parliament (MPs) have been on recess since August 23 and will resume the session, which will be the last one this year, before they go for the December holidays.
