Seven charged with stealing Sh27 million State fertiliser

Two transporters and five traders were yesterday charged at the Milimani law courts with conspiracy to steal over 5,000 bags of subsidised fertiliser worth Sh27.8 million.

The subsidised fertiliser which the suspects are alleged to have stolen was on transit from Mombasa port to National Cereals and Produce Board at Kamwosor depot in Rift Valley.

The seven, Joseph Wamakau, Stanley Mumo, Martin Kioko, Beatrice Mwikali, Fredrick Gateri, Joseph Matheka and Anthony Kimuyu, who appeared before Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, denied four charges of fraud levelled against them by the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The court heard that on diverse dates between March 21 and April 27, 2023 at unknown place jointly with others not before the court conspired to steal 5,060 of 50 kilogrammes of subsidised fertiliser worth Sh27,830,000 the property of Kenya government.  The case will be mentioned on June 14, 2023.
