Members of the Embu County Assembly.

A group of Members of the Embu County Assembly have rejoined the ruling Jubilee following its revamping ahead of the elections.

At least seven of the county’s 20 MCAs are reported to have sought the resurgent party’s ticket for their re-election.

The return of the MCAs and other leaders who have expressed interest in the party’s ticket is expected to boost the party’s presence in the Mt. Kenya East region.

Embu County Assembly Leader of Majority Michael Njeru said the seven had been cleared to defend their seats under the umbrella of the Jubilee party in the August 9 General Election.

The Kithimu MCA added that several of his colleagues who were yet to decide on their parties of choice would most likely join Jubilee.

New leadership

He revealed that in the process of realigning its internal leadership structure, the Embu branch of the Jubilee Party had appointed Mwea MCA Marrison Mwaluko as the interim chairman who will be deputised by his Mbeti South colleague Murithi Kiura.

Other MCAs that have declared that they would not be ditching Jubilee for other parties include John Gichovi (Nginda), Salesio Kimaru (Kyeni South), Patrick Rugendo (Kagaari North) and Nominated MCAs Bernard Kandia and Sicily Ruguru who is the party’s acting county coordinator.

Speaking at the County Assembly Chambers, Njeru further disclosed that current Kirimari MCA Morris Muchiri, alias Collo, would be vying for the Manyatta parliamentary seat on a Jubilee ticket.

He also stated that a massive recruitment drive for aspirants and party members had been launched.

The Majority Leader was responding to a question by Nthawa MCA Nathan Mwari on the purported “death” of the Jubilee Party which has the most members at the County Assembly.

Mwari observed that Governor Martin Wambora and many MCAs had defected to other parties which they have been marketing as the vehicles they intend to use in the coming election.

Njeru affirmed his commitment to spearhead government business until the lapse of his term as MCA and Majority Leader in the Assembly.
