The government has released Sh4.4 billion to pay beneficiaries enrolled in the Inua Jamii cash transfer programmes.

It will be paid out to at least 1.1 million beneficiaries starting Wednesday.

The money, to cover the January-February cycle, will see a total of 294,023 beneficiaries enrolled in the Cash Transfer for Orphans and Vulnerable Children programme receive Sh1.2 million.

“A total of 762,885 beneficiaries enlisted under the Older Persons Cash Transfer programme will be paid Sh3.1 million while another 34,116 beneficiaries enrolled under the Persons with Severe Disability Cash Transfer programme will receive Sh136.7 million,” the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection said in a statement yesterday.

According to the ministry, each of the beneficiaries will receive Sh4,000 to cover the two-month payment cycle.

“Beneficiaries or caregivers can access the payment at any time over the next six months.

A beneficiary is allowed to withdraw all or part of this amount at any time within the six-month period,” the ministry said.

Beneficiaries are to receive their payments through the contracted Payment Service Providers namely Co-operative Bank, Equity Bank, Kenya Commercial Bank and Kenya Post Office Savings bank.
