Police in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, have seized a consignment of contraband alcohol and ethanol worth Sh5 million and arrested two suspects.

The suspects, Douglas Hitla, a driver, and his conductor Josphat Chonjo, were rushed to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in serious condition after their 14-seater private vehicle rolled several times at the Eldoret-Kitale intersection with the contraband.

Uasin Gishu County Criminal Investigations Officer Peter Kimulowo said the car was coming from Busia.

He added that his officers laid an ambush at an intersection at Maili Tisa following a tip-off from the public. The Nissan vehicle diverted to the Kitale highway on sensing the presence of sleuths at the interchange, he added.

Last month, security agencies led by county commissioner Eddyson Nyale impounded cartoons of contraband alcohol being packaged in rental houses at Munyaka and Sigot.
