There is no gainsaying that some defeats are hard to take and are so humiliating that even if you are not a fan of the loser, it can be heart-breaking.

Such is the position Kisumu All Stars found themselves in after shipping in eight goals with only a single reply against Kariobangi Sharks in a Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at the weekend in what will go down as one of the biggest losing score lines in the history of the top-tier league.

It was surprising how All Stars, who are better known as Otenga (Hawks) put up a descent shift in the early exchanges but failed to fly past Sharks.

They would later crumble like a pack of cards and it was just a matter of when their defence would be breached by the marauding Sharks strikers.

The defeat was mind-boggling so much so that All Stars were simply lost for words after the final whistle with the team’s officials shepherding crestfallen players to the dressing room apparently to take stock of what had just happened.

Before the massacre, Kisumu All Stars, who sit in the 16th position with a paltry eight points from 19 outings, were smarting from nine straight defeats with the team staring at relegation in the face.

Sharks were uncompromising in the evening but will have to put on more superb displays to haul themselves up from an odd 12th placing in the league.

In the meantime, Gor Mahia seem to be leaving nothing to chance in their quest to defend the title after crushing Nzoia 3-0 to open up a four point gap at the top of the standings.
