Shikangwa shifts focus on football greatness after finishing High School
Harambee Starlets’ speedy winger Jentrix Shikangwa completed her secondary education a fortnight ago and is now shifting her full focus on playing football, to be able to catch the attention of foreign clubs.
The 19-years old player who plies her trade for Vihiga Queens was a student at Wiyeta Girls in Trans Nzoia County where she sat her final Form Four national exam on April 16.
Shikangwa who emerged as the top scorer in the 2020 Council of East and Central Africa Football Association (Cecafa) women championships, expressed her excitement after completing secondary education and reiterated her commitment to both Vihiga Queens and the national team where she wants to give her best before making her next move.
“My desire is now to settle down during this break then give my best for both my club and the national team.
I was not able to give the sides 100 per cent of my energy as I also focused on the exams, but now I have no distractions,” she told People Sport.
She added: “It has not been easy but the coaches and my teachers really helped me a lot in balancing education and football.
I’m confident of attaining a good grade that will enable me to pursue higher education later because there is life after football.
For now I can dedicate all my time and energy to football, I want to work on my weak areas so that I can become an all-round and complete player, I have a big ambition to play at the top level in European leagues.”
She also thanked his father Milimu Magwa who she said has very supportive to her both materially and morally to ensure that she succeeded in her education and football career.
“My father has remained a great motivational figure having played soccer himself, but at lower levels.
He wants me to achieve what he wanted to realize but failed and he understands the hurdles that hinder progress.
“My brother Derick Anami who also plays for Kericho Zoo is also, another factor that motivates he inspires with great skills and other football clips of former players and encourages me always to work hard and maintain discipline,” she added.
