Three sisters were on Saturday night reportedly raped by a gang of three men who were armed with crude weapons at Bukhulungu village in Funyula constituency, Busia county.

The gang is also said to have escaped with money and electronic wares worth thousands of shillings.

Narrating the ordeal, one of the girls said the gangsters, who were clad in jungle uniform broke into the house at around 1am and started ransacking the house.

“I heard some movements in the house and I thought it was one of my sisters who was out to answer a call of nature. When the movements persisted, I put on a spotlight and went out to check. I was shocked to see a man walking in the corridor of the house. I raised the alarm and that is when they started sexually abusing us and threatening to kill us,” she told People Daily

Slow response

The girls’ parents and other family members were out of the county attending a relative’s funeral.

Residents accused police of failing respond immediately after the incident was reported.

A resident only identified as Kevin said officers came into the scene at 5am when the gangsters had left.

Samia sub-county police boss Winnie Siele said the girls there taken to Buburi Health Centre for treatment, adding that they are stable although shocked.

The officer said they have launched investigations into the incident and warned criminals roaming in the area that their days are numbered.

Last week, Busia MCAs accused security agents in the area of  sleeping on the job and asked the Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to transfer officers who have  stayed in one station for more than an year.
