Shujaa booked their place in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games after beating South Africa 17-12 in the Africa 7s games in Harare, Zimbabwe, on Sunday, September 17, 2023.

Kenya 7s have been impressive on the continental stage, and their efforts have been handsomely rewarded with an Olympic Games ticket.

How Shujaa downed rivals

Meanwhile, Shujaa's opening try against South Africa was scored by Patrick Odongo, which was converted by Tony Omondi as the East Africans claimed a 7-0 lead.

The Kenyan lead was reduced following two tries by the rivals; the first was scored by Selvin Davids, but Ronald Brown failed to convert.

South Africa took the lead when Christie Grobbelar scored to ensure they went to the break with a 12-7 margin in their favour.

Odongo, an impressive figure for Kenya in the tournament, scored his second try after being set up by Vincent Onyala, as the second half began with high-octane actions.

The Shujaa lead was extended to 17-12 with John Okoth's try. Kenya, who suffered a humiliating relegation from the World Series, held tight to the lead and eventually assured themselves of a place on the international stage once again.

Before the final showdown against South Africa, Shujaa beat Zimbabwe 35-10 in the semi-final.

The healthy victory for Shujaa came following their impressive 26-0 show against Burkina Faso in the quarterfinal.

Shujaa vs Zimbabwe

Meanwhile, Kenya 7s scored their opening try through Odongo before Omondi's successful conversion against Zimbabwe.

Nygel Amaitsa scored the second try, which was also converted by Omondi, as Kenya extended their lead against the hosts.

The Southern Africans were not dispirited by Kenya's dominance as they fought back and earned points from an unconverted try to make the scoreline read 14-5.

Shujaa, who topped Pool B, extended the lead by five more points when Okoth was set up by Omondi.

Kenya went to the halftime break with a 21-5 lead and came back as determined as they were in the opening half.

Despite showing clear determination, the Cheetahs scored to reduce the gap by five points.

The East Africans were not distracted by Zimbabwe's show of resilience and responded with a try from Okoth as Omondi added the extras.

The Cheetah's defense line was breached again as George Ooro went to add Kenya five more points before Omondi's conversion stretched the lead to 35-10.
