Siaya develops strategy to curb drug theft in hospitals

Siaya county government has crafted a comprehensive strategy to deal with theft of drugs in hospitals.

Governor James Orengo (pictured) said that following the move drugs would be supplied to the facilities within the next two weeks. “I have held a meeting with stakeholders for the past two days working on a comprehensive strategy to deal with drugs pilferage. I want to assure Siaya people of improvement of drugs in the facilities,” said Orengo.

He added, “We are on a mission to ensure that supply of drugs to all facilities are improved and shortages stopped”.

Impromptu visit

Orengo who spoke after making an impromptu visit to the Siaya referral hospital said in two weeks’ time, Siaya people will see the difference in terms of the drugs stocks at the facilities. He noted that the Siaya Referral Hospital was doing well in terms of the provision of the quality healthcare. “We have done our inspection of the facility and found out that its staff shortages and deficit in the commodities that derails provision of healthcare services and my government is committed towards addressing the challenges,” he said.
