Nairobi senator Edwin Sifuna has claimed that the current regime led by President William Ruto is out to seek vengeance.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV on Thursday, July 27, 2023, Sifuna alleged that the main agenda of the current administration was to frustrate those they think wronged them when they were still in power.

Sifuna specifically pointed at the President, his deputy Rigathi Gachagua and Interior Cabinet Secretary (CS) Kithure Kindiki will pay dearly should they fail to rule forever.

While accusing the three of misusing their power, Sifuna underscored that it was unfair for leaders to go after retired presidents instead of focusing on discharging their mandated roles.

"Kindiki, Ruto and Gachagua best pray to their God that they remain in power forever because they will reap where they have sowed. We had a tradition in this country where we didn't go after retired presidents, we didn't see the sort of vengeance and vindictiveness from a regime.

"People would be elected and they would just proceed to serve the people. It is very clear that the agenda of this government was to revenge on the people they perceive that they treated them badly while they were still in power," he said.

Sifuna also weighed in on the current political temperatures noting that the main issue is between the president and the people, not opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Sifuna claimed that the President should listen to the people and fulfil their wishes by repealing the Finance Act and removing police from protests.

"Raila has no problem, the only problem we have is a listening problem. All that needs to be done is for Ruto to listen to the people," he added.
