World Under-18 400m silver medallist Mary Moraa is scheduled to travel to the US for further training ahead of a possible appearance at the 2020 World Under 20 Championships in Nairobi.

The trip to the US, early next year, is aimed at helping her secure a podium finish when the global age group event returns to the country again.

“I have secured a scholarship where I will be training to better myself as an athlete,” said Moraa, adding that the training will put her in good stead for the Under-20 event.

“I am happy to have been part of the 2017 World Under-18 Championships held at Kasarani Stadium. That remains my biggest event,” said Moraa, who settled for silver in 400m then.

“I relish the opportunity to represent my country at home again,” said the former Mogonga Secondary School student.

Finishing fourth during the 2018 World Under-20 Championships in Tampere, Finland was not good enough for Moraa who wants to work for a medal place in 2020.

“With good training and given that I will be running at home, I think I can go for a medal,” said Moraa, who trains in Ngong under coach Isaac Kirwa.

The runner, who won the Africa U-20 title this year, is also in the verge of joining the National Police Service.

“I have admired the disciplined forces for many years and I could not turn down an opportunity to join them,” she said.
