Directorate of Criminal Investigations has applied for orders seeking to exhume the body of a Pakistan national, who died and hurriedly buried under unclear circumstances.

Police Constable Pharis Thoya, through the regional DCI, in his sworn affidavit, told Mombasa Senior Principal Magistrate Vincent Adet that detectives were conducting an inquest into the circumstances that led to the death of Abbas Anverali Nazerali on May 15.

Court heard that the deceased  wife, Kiran Nazerali, lied to doctors that her husband was ailing and had a heart condition, and declined to have him hospitalised, arguing that she would take care of him at their home in Tudor area.

Director of Public Prosecutions, through State Counsel Hillary Ishao, also informed the court that brother to the deceased, Shakir Anawar, had reported to Port Police Station about the unclear circumstances that led to the death of his brother.

Court heard that Kiran and a family friend organised a hurried burial at Khoja Shia Ithini-Ashari Cemetery near Haile Selassie road. State is further seeking orders for the officer in-charge of the Central Police Station to provide adequate security during the exhumation exercise.

However, Kiran, has opposed the move, arguing that the application was made in bad faith since the deceased was not in talking terms with his brother at the time of his death.
