The battle for the control of the leadership of the Nairobi County Government deepened yesterday after the High Court allowed the withdrawal of a case challenging the nomination of Mike Sonko’s Deputy Governor nominee Anne Kananu Mwenda.

Judge Hedwig Ong’undi allowed the withdrawal of a petition seeking to challenge the process of vetting Kananu saying there is no prejudice that will be suffered if the case is withdrawn.

The judge observed that the petitioner Peter Odhiambo Agoro filed the petition on his own motion and from the pleading it has not been shown that he has represented other parties.

“No public interest in this matter that will suffer as a result of petitioners’ move. Agoro filed this petition as an individual and nowhere in his pleadings has it been shown he has been representing other persons.

The petition is now withdrawn and all other applications hanging on the side have nothing to fall on,” ordered the judge.

The withdrawal comes after on Tuesday the petitioner Agoro filed a notice to withdraw saying that he does not wish to continue with the petition.

Mwenda was nominated in 2020 by impeached Governor Mike Sonko but her name was not submitted to the County Assembly for vetting due to the court order.
