Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Wetang'ula, is currently in Dublin, Ireland, for a three-day visit.

The invitation for this visit came from Sean Fearghail, Speaker of Dail Eireann, as a gesture of the enduring friendship between Kenya and Ireland.

Wetang'ula's visit

During his arrival, Wetang'ula engaged in discussions with Kenyan Ambassador to Ireland, Tabu Irina, focusing on various topics including the role of the State Department for Diaspora Affairs in facilitating the registration of Kenyans abroad, and the proposal to expand mobile consular services.

Accompanying Wetang'ula are leaders Peter Kaluma, Liza Chelule, Jane Kagiri, Nebert Muriuki, Fatuma Jehow, and Zaheer Jhanda.

Wetang'ula expressed gratitude for the warm welcome extended by Ambassador  Irina at the Kenya-Dublin embassy, emphasizing the longstanding friendship between Kenya and Ireland, which spans 90 years.

"I was warmly welcomed by Her Excellency Ambassador Tabu Irina at the Kenya-Dublin embassy, Ireland.

"This three-day visit is at the invitation of Hon. Sean O Fearghail, TD, Speaker of the Dail Eireann, in recognition of the longstanding friendship between Kenya and Ireland, which spans 90 year," Wetang'ula said in a statement.

"In discussions with H.E Amb. Irina, we acknowledged the vital role of the State Department for Diaspora Affairs in facilitating the registration of Kenyans abroad, proposing the expansion of mobile consular services, he added.

Meanwhile, his visit comes two days after Foreign Affairs and Prime Cabinet Secretary of Kenya, Musalia Mudavadi's participation in the 21st Nordic-Africa Foreign Ministers meeting in Denmark.

The meeting, held from May 2 to 3, brought together foreign ministers from Africa and the Nordic Region in Copenhagen, aiming to bolster dialogue and collaboration across various socioeconomic domains.

Nordic-Africa meeting

Key topics included advancing cooperation in green transition, digitalization, trade and investments, global governance, reform of international financial structures, and labour mobility.

Over 15 African foreign ministers and all Nordic foreign ministers attended, along with representatives from the Danish business sector, underscoring the significance of the diplomatic engagement.
