National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi at a meeting of the Mount Kenya Unity Forum leaders yesterday sparked speculation on his game plan ahead of the 2022 polls.

Muturi met with Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua, former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo, former MPs Ndung’u Gathenji, Humphrey Njuguna (Gatanga) and Muchiri Gachara (Ndaragwa).

While Muturi inexplicably avoided a joint press conference that took place immediately after the meeting in Nairobi,  Karua said their initiative was meant to unite Mt Kenya leaders. Karua said: “We will tour all regions in Mt Kenya to preach unity to our people.” Muturi has already flagged his presidential bid under Democratic Party ticket, while Kabogo and Karua have been spearheading efforts to unite regional leaders to back one of them.

“The aim of our meeting is to make plans for our programmes, one of them being meeting with other leaders so that we can work together. We will also tour all regions in Mt Kenya to preach unity to our people and we will be hitting the ground running,” Karua said.
