Sports CS Amina commissions Advisory Committee to oversee resuming of sports
Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed will give the away forward after eight days on weather all local sporting activities should resume or not amid the current coronavirus pandemic.
Amina made the revelation yesterday when she commissioned a team of 24 stakeholders from various sports sections to look into the possibilities of resuming sports in the country and she expects a detailed report from the team on July 10 before announcing the way forward.
Sporting activities in the country came to a halt in March after the first case of the virus was reported. Some countries in Africa have already resumed their sporting activities.
The move by Amina is viewed as a step in the right direction given the fact that World Health Organisation announced that the virus may be there for long and people should find ways of going about their business and cautiously live with it.
Speaking yesterday to the press at Nyayo National Stadium, the CS said the group would come up with a report that must be satisfactory and workable going forward.
“We are eager to get back like many would anticipate but the plan is for this team to come up with answers for us.
It is an enlarged team that consists different stakeholders in the industry and outside.
The Advisory Committee team that was appointed two days ago has Chief Administrative Secretary Hassan Noor Hassan as the chairperson of the 24-member team that including two representatives fronted by Ministry of Health,” she said.
The Committee is expected to engage all key stakeholders including, but not limited to; sports organisations, and collect their views on ideal protocols to be put in place before resumption of sports activities. 
The Committee’s Term of Reference also include a review of global trends in resuming of sports activities and exploring the possibility of the resumption of sports activities in Kenya.
“We are grateful to the Cabinet Secretary for Health, Mutahi Kagwe for assigning two senior officers to support the Ministry draft the resumption of Sports protocols.
I call upon all stakeholders to engage with the Committee when they are called upon to do so and urge their indulgence to pause any activities until the protocols have been finalized and issued,” said Amina.
