State machinery won’t intimidate me, vows Ruto
Deputy President William Ruto over the weekend rallied Kajiado residents to join his United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party saying it has a national outlook compared to other political outfits.
Ruto said he will not be intimidated by State machinery using criminal justice system and blackmail to interfere with his State House race.
The DP was at Imaroro Kajiado East constituency where he popularised his agenda on the bottom-up economic model before attending a church service at Loitoktok in Kajiado South and later held rallies in Illasit and Loitoktok town.
“Those selling fear to us should instead focus on coming up with an agenda and policies that are people-based. Form a political party with a national outlook like UDA and stop creating confusion with small tribal political parties,” he told residents of Loitoktok town.
Ruto said it is possible to make the 2022 polls peaceful and smooth adding that this will be achieved if Kenyans are given a fair chance to elect leaders of their choice.
“The contest must be free of blackmail, threats and intimidation,” he said.
Ruto noted that the use of fear and coercion to shape next year’s political choices was primitive and out -dated.
“Fear is a sin. We cannot buy it. Kenyans will only buy issues,” he added.
The DP took issue with Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga, terming him as a stumbling block, that has rocked the Jubilee party leading to divisions.
He said he is ready to continue with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big Four agenda if he ascends to power in 2022.
“ The former premier and his team are only focused on constitutional amendments to create more elective positions for selfish gain,’’he said.
He also took a swipe at OKA leaders telling them to settle on a candidate instead of wasting time creating confusion.
He also Ruto told residents of Ilasit that the bottom-up economic model targets to spur growth.
“You heard me reassuring the President of my commitment to continue with the big four agenda.
Micro-small enterprises and creating employment among youths will be my priority. We want to bring down the cost of living,’’he said.
Peaceful contest
The DP attended a fund drive at Kimana Catholic Church and Africa Inland Church Loitoktok respectively.
He was accompanied by MPs Adan Duale (Garrissa), Rigathi Gachagua (Mathira), Katoo ole Metito (Kajiado South), Peris Tobiko(Kajiado East) and a host of UDA allied politicians.
The DP challenged his competitors to share with Kenyans their development agenda. “Let them also make public how they plan to unite the country under their fragmented political parties,” he said.
Gachagua said the political threats had shifted from being aimed at Ruto to independent-minded politicians.
“ Elections will be decided by the people, not an individual,” said the Mathira MP.
Duale on his part urged Kenyans to back Ruto and the bottom-up economic model.
“We cannot go back to the politics of tribe and division. The race is decided,” he claimed.
Tobiko urged Kenyans to support the United Democratic Alliance whose plan is on the uplifting of the underprivileged.
She promised to engage in a peaceful contest with Ole Metito for the Kajiado Gubernatorial seat.
“If he defeats me, I will campaign for him,” observed the Kajiado East MP.
