State reposseses a prime land from Thika grabbers
The government has repossessed a three-quarter acre of grabbed public land at prime Section Nine estate in Thika, Kiambu County.
The land grabbers are reported to have used the back door to acquire the land documents including three title deeds two of which have since been cancelled while the other has been suspended.
Thika MP Patrick Wainaina who oversaw the process of recovering the prime plot said that the process of processing a new title bearing the Ministry of Education name is at advanced stages.
Wainaina said that the gang attempting to grab the land was well-connected with contacts in various government agencies including land's offices and even politicians.
He warned the syndicate and government officers including surveyors working at land offices and who have been working in cahoots with grabbers that their days are numbered.
If found culpable of aiding in theft of public land, the MP insisted that fraudulent officers will ruthlessly be handled as per the law.
“We will not rest until we have all grabbed public land in Thika recovered. To the grabbers, return what returns to the public before we demolish those structures and put up public projects,” he said.
The recovered land will be used for construction of a Sh 30 million worth modern library to accommodate a dense population of learners within the expansive Thika Town Constituency.
Wainaina said that the storey building library with physical and online reading materials is hoped to complement the small existing one that was constructed over 30-years ago and which has been overrun by events.
“The population we have in Thika cannot be accommodated at the small library. We are going to build a spacious library that will accommodate all,” he said.
He called on the people of good will including Thika educationists to support the project which he said will be built in collaboration between NG-CDF and well-wishers.
The MP said the library will be equipped with internet Wi-Fi that will serve residents at a radius of 1-kilometer.
