State to deploy new teachers in North Eastern
Education Cabinet Secreary Prof. George Magoha has assured that the government will soon deploy new teachers in North Eastern region.
Magoha said the government was in the final stages of resolving the problem after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) transferred more than 3,000 of its personnel from the region over insecurity.
“We are in the process of deploying new teachers in some parts of North Eastern to solve the teacher shortage crisis in the region,” he said.
Magoha made the remarks at PrideInn Beach Resort in Mombasa Thursday when he briefed the media on the sidelines of Seventh Retirement Conference.
He said the government has taken the necessary measures to ensure teachers are deployed in the region and their security guaranteed.
The massive transfer of teachers in North Eastern has paralyzed learning in the region resulting to protests by local leaders.
“Work is in progress and already so many local and non-local teachers are there. We are in the process of sending more teachers,” said the CS who refused to give timeline for the deployment.
He noted that it is the policy of the government to ensure that every Kenyan child enjoyed the right to education irrespective of any challenges.
On 100 percent transition, Prof. Magoha called on all stakeholders to support the program to ensure that all primary students proceed to secondary schools.
“The local administration should report any case of drop out because the government is determined to retain all children in school. The100 per cent transition is very possible if we all work together,” added the CS.
Prof. Magoha also said all learning institutions must meet operational standards or face closure saying the ministry was keenly monitoring the improvement progress of schools shut down last year.
Last year, the government shut down a number of schools in Mombasa and other parts of the country for having poor structures.
