How do you celebrate your first Masters title in the midst of a global pandemic? Well, if you’re Dustin Johnson you jet off to the Caribbean to celebrate.
The American made history on Sunday with the lowest-ever score recorded at Augusta - of 20-under par - as he won his maiden Green Jacket.
Johnson celebrated the feat with his loved ones immediately and has continued the celebrations by travelling to the West Indies.
The travelling party includes Johnson’s fiancee Paulina Gretzky - daughter of ice hockey legend Wayne - and his brother Austin, who is also his caddie.
His sibling’s wife Samantha is also present on the celebratory trip with them all staying at luxury apartment in Saint Barthelemy.
Gretzky has shared several moments of the trip so far on Instagram that includes them enjoying a large round of shots as well as playing a game of Jenga.
Johnson, who was born just an hour away from Augusta in South Carolina, shot a final round 68 for a 20-under total that lowered by two shots the all-time 72-hole record set Tiger Woods in 1997 and Jordan Spieth in 2015.
It equalled the record in any major, set by Jason Day at the 2015 USPGA and matched by Henrik Stenson in winning the Open at Royal Troon the following year.
Despite his historic achievement, world No 1 Johnson has revealed that retirement is already on his mind in the medium-term future.
‘I feel like I’m not going to dial anything back,’ Johnson said. ‘I feel really good about everything I’m doing. I feel really confident in the golf game.
‘You know, my goal is to play for about, I don’t know, (it) keeps getting shorter, but eight, nine, maybe 10 years, and then hang out with my kids and Paulina (Gretzky, his fiance).
‘So until then, I’m going to work my butt off to be as good as I can.’
Asked if he also dreams of winning numerous further majors, having won the US Open in 2016, Johnson added: ‘I do. I do. I want to get to number three first, but I do.
‘I dream of winning a lot of majors. Just hadn’t quite happened yet. Hopefully this one will help, though, give me a little spring.’
