Temperatures rise in Kirinyaga over threats

Political temperatures continue to rise in Kirinyaga with several Members of County Assembly (MCAs) claiming their lives are in danger.
The MCAs allege they have received death threats while others have been attacked following what they said was a ploy to cow them not to continue with planned impeachment motion of Kirinyaga governor Ann Mumbi Waiguru.
Unknown arsonists attacked Mutira MCA David Kinyua Wangui’s homestead last night setting ablaze a store at midnight.
Kinyua said the unknown assailants wanted to kill him and his family but quick intervention by residents saved them after responding to the alarm raised by one of his workers.
He said the assailants left behind a petrol jerrican.
“This was clear attack to me and my family after I tabled a motion to impeach the governor, but I want to tell them that I’ll not be intimidated or bow down to pressure. We must ensure people elected in this county are accountable,” he said.
The independent MCA revealed he has received numerous threats since he tabled the motion, saying the threats are well-coordinated to intimidate him to withdraw the motion but vowed to soldier on.
Ngariama Ward MCA Michael Ireri and Rose Njeri (nominated) recorded statements with DCI officers at Kianyaga Police Station after leaflets were circulated warning them of dire consequences for hiring youths to discredit Kirinyaga governor over the weekend.
Ireri revealed that he recorded a statement with police and called the law enforcers to beef up the MCAs security saying that they are receiving pressure every day to drop impeachment motion.
