Emotions ran high yesterday during the burial of two people who were shot dead after a confrontation between residents of Chebarus in Uasin Gishu county and Kenya Defence Forces soldiers.

There was heavy police presence on Uganda Road yesterday as families collected the bodies at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for a funeral service at Chebarus Primary School.

Mourners demanded thorough investigations into the  Christmas Day shooting, which also left three other people with gunshot wounds.

Governor Jackson Mandago, who led other leaders during the burial called on the government to resolve the land standoff decisively.

“We call on the people to remain calm as the compensation committee work on a workable solution to the problem,” he said.

He emphasised the need for the land compulsory acquisition policy to be reviewed to ensure that those affected are fully compensated.

Those killed during the confrontation were Joel Keter, 53 and Eliud Menjo, 47.
