Thika Town Member of Parliament(MP) now wants the law amended to make misappropriation of public funds a capital offence.

MP Patrick Wainaina says making embezzlement of public resources a capital offence will discourage public servants from engaging in theft of public resources.

Speaking when he inspected development projects at the constituency, the first time MP regretted that corrupt persons in public offices have been fraudulently stealing from public coffers to enrich themselves at the expense of developments meant to improve the livelihoods of millions of Kenyans.

He said punitive measures should be taken to curb theft of public resources regretting that the fraudulent individuals have not been sparing even hospitals.

“It’s sad that people have been sweeping clean public coffers instead of driving development projects as mandated by their electorates," he said.

The MP who was reacting to the fact that hefty allocations to his constituency had in the past regimes been allegedly stolen leaving many schools and other infrastructural developments unattended promised to constructively utilize every coin meant for development.

He called on Kenyans to unite behind initiatives to end corruption in the country and support President Uhuru Kenyatta’s stated war to weed out the corrupt.

He called on his fellow politicians to keep off heightened politicking that could drag developments and plunge the country into anarchy.

“There is time to politic and time to serve. This is the time to serve and deliver on my manifesto. When campaign time comes, we will go to the electorates and ask them for votes. For now, Kenyans want developments and improvement of their livelihoods,” he ended.
