Thirdway Alliance tells off Waiguru over bill rejection claims

Thirdway Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot yesterday criticised Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru and the media for insinuating that his Punguza Mizigo bill was rejected by the Nyeri County Assembly.
He said formal debating of the bill did not take place in Nyeri and Laikipia and people should desist from spreading falsehoods.
Aukot spoke in Laikipia on Wednesday after tabling the bill in the County Assembly.
Intimidate MCAs
He said some politicians had resorted to intimidating MCAs to reject the bill and cited a case in Siaya where he claimed MCAs had been summoned to a meeting to pressurise them to reject it.
Aukot said the bill seeks to strengthen integrity of people in public service and State officers.
Deputy Speaker Daniel Nyausi while welcoming Aukot said the Assembly was eager to listen to him. “I am glad Members will be able to interrogate the bill and if convinced it will help our people, we shall support it,” he said.
He added that the Assembly would conduct public participation on the Punguza Mizigo bill in all the three constituencies in the county to get views from residents before debating it as a motion.
