Police in Thika, Kiambu County have arrested three middle-aged men in Ngoingwa estate after they were found cultivating bhang in an abandoned home.

The three are reported to have been growing the outlawed weed ostensibly for personal and commercial purposes.

The nabbed bhang, according to police, is worth Sh 4,000.

According to Thika Sub County Deputy Police Commander Daniel Kitavi, police managed to search the house where they found other goods suspected to have been stolen from different areas.

“We also found other items among them a cow and house carpets which we suspect were stolen elsewhere and were ready for resale to unsuspecting customers,” he said.

Among the arrested is the palatial house caretaker and his two accomplices who are reported to have been cultivating the plantations together.

Addressing journalists at Thika Police Station, Kitavi warned people who keep their incomplete construction sites open to unscrupulous people warning that most can become criminal dens.

He urged them to entrust their property to trusted people to avoid such occurrences.

While reiterating that the happening was an isolated case in the area, Kitavi blamed the high uptake of drugs to surge in criminal activities but reiterated that police were alert.

The arrested will be charged with cultivating illegal plants and drug trafficking.
