Three murdered in Gatundu, a day after Matiang’i’s visit

Residents of Kimunyu and Gachoka villages in Gatundu today woke up to a shock following the murders of three middle-aged men. The men were killed in separate incidences and their bodies dumped in different coffee plantations.
The villages are adjacent to President Kenyatta's Ichaweri home in Gatundu South, Kiambu County.
The deaths have occured only a day after Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i visited the crime-prone Gatundu South Constituency and warned that the government would crack the whip on gangs that have been terrorizing locals.
The deceased are reportedly young men aged below 30 years who the residents cited as clean and seemingly harmless.
Shocked and lost in confusion on what next awaits them, the residents claimed that they have been spending sleepless nights waiting for the next tragedy to happen.
Police rushed at the scenes and took the bodies which were rushed to City Mortuary.
According to Gatundu Sub County deputy police commander George Kipkoros who spoke on phone, police have commenced investigations on the matter.
While calling for calmness, Kipkoros confirmed that the bodies had been strangled elsewhere before being dumped in the two separate villages.
Residents however said that Mating’Is visit was not effective a they continue to live in fear of being mugged, killed and robbed valuables alongside being sexually assaulted by the merciless gang that has been breaking in houses during the night.
During his visit on Thursday this week, Matiang’i who expressed concerns over reports of cold-blooded killings and robbery in the area redeployed security and administration officers in Kiambu with immediate effect to address rising cases of insecurity in the county.
Matiang’i explained that some of the drastic measures taken to mitigate security in Kiambu include reorganizing police and national government administration deployment with immediate effect.
He said the regional commissioner has also been instructed to fill all vacant positions for chiefs before October 15, where interviews have already been done.
Matiang’i’s visited the president’s backyard soon after the burial of two residents, Joseph Kagua Kibe and Bernard Kiruki who had been killed in a span of a week by armed robbers who have been terrorizing residents.
In another incident, the deadly gang had raped a middle-aged woman in front of his father before they got away with phones and cash.
