Thuo Mathenge has finally been cleared to vie for the Nyeri governor seat on the New Democrats party ticket.

Mathenge received the green light on Monday, June 6, after being turned away by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) last Saturday for failing to meet the academic qualification requirement.

IEBC had rejected the politician's papers saying they were not genuine.

After he was handed the clearance certificate on Monday, Thuo, who is commonly known as 'Wanguku', together with his family and supporters knelt down at the IEBC offices and held prayers to thank God.

"This is like magic to me, I can't believe I now have the certificate after all the troubles I have gone through but God is great," Thuo said.

He attributed his tribulations to detractors who he said were keen to block his candidature.

"I don't know what I did to my detractor, they have been going round Nyeri County saying that I have been thrown out of the race. I have forgiven them for the tribulations I have undergone," he added.

He promised to construct more industries in the county to create more jobs if he ascends to power in the polls slated for August 9, 2022.
